Hale Loa sits on one acre of tropical landscaping.

The three best words to describe this 1-acre property are Charm, Charm, Charm! The house has two levels affording maximum privacy for your traveling party, and the house and surroundings have a light open feeling throughout. Hale Loa sits on a beautifully manicured one-acre lot with hundreds of tropical palm trees, fruit trees, and exotic flowering plants.

Check out the video.

You enter the main part of the house through French doors from the lanai area, which has an outdoor table and barbecue. The living area has terra cotta tile throughout with a nice open floor plan in the living room and kitchen. The main level has the master bedroom with a king bed and a full bath. Downstairs has a separate entrance and offers a bedroom with a queen bed, a full bath, and a large den with a futon bed. Both levels have TVs with DVDs.

An tropical garden awaits you when you return after a day of exploring. The owner has taken great pride in providing a manicured, mature landscape that allows guests to enjoy the beauty of East Hawaii with the feeling of a tropical forest.

Hale Loa is less than 10 minutes from the town of Pahoa, which offers several restaurants, a wonderful health food store, and some interesting shops. Pahoa also has a small shopping center with a nice market for your food and personal needs. Another 20 minutes and you're in the heart of Hilo. You are also about 15 minutes from a charming thermally heated hot pond (great for kids), the black sand beach at Kehena (clothing optional), and great snorkeling in protected reefs. Volcanoes National Park, less than an hour away, offers some of the best hiking in all Hawaii along with scenic views and an active volcano.

Need temporary housing? Hale Loa is a great place to settle if you are on a temporary assignment or need longer-term housing. Free High-speed Internet is available for your computer.

Guest comments: "We really enjoyed the home and our stay in Leilani Estates. Please let the owners know that their home was the best we've stayed in so far in terms of sundry items, kitchen supplies/equipment and general comfort. We also found the grounds enchanting. They obviously have taken such time and care to make their acre a tropical paradise." --Catherine K., Campbell CA.

Year-round rate range is $85 - $195 per night, depending upon party size and dates of your visit. Cleaning fee is $100.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hale Loa! It was truly wonderful to "get away" from all of the activity of the city and savor the peace and tranquility of the Puna coast. Mahalo!!!

The house was wonderful! The location was a little out of the way but not hard to get to and from Hilo. The coqui frogs singing at night was not bothersome at all and the property was very well kept. You might let future renters know that if you use GPS to get to the house that it will direct you to turn into the unpaved section of Kahukai Street between Leilani St. and the house. The road is very bumpy and if your car is low to the ground it will bottom out unless you drive at less than five miles per hour. We followed your directions and had no problems but you might warn not to use the unpaved section that the GPS would tell you to use. Mahalo and Aloha!

We were very pleased with the house. The location was near everything we wanted to be near (snorkeling, Volcanoes N.P., food, beaches, the red road) The town of Pahoa is not your typical touristy town and had an interesting vibe which we knew and welcomed. We ate in most nights which was our plan. The town is just up the road about 4 miles and the restaurants we ate in were great. The grocery store is silly expensive on the island so it was nice to have some items at the house already (olive oil, salt pepper, other seasonings etc. and I was happy to contribute to the collection of staples also.) Although I felt safe at the house, there is definitely a unique feeling in the town. Which is exactly how they like it there. It was a very relaxing stay and I'm glad we made the trip!

Hale Loa was an awesome place to stay, with the local towns not beeing to far away. Although saying this, you do need a car to get around. That is the only down side, if you can call it that!

We had a wonderful time. The location was beautiful. Grounds were park-like. We felt very much at home in the house.

If you want a restful vacation in a beautiful setting, this is it. We only stayed a week, and did not bother to go to the Kona side of the island. There was plenty to see and do locally. The town of Pahoa is cute, funky, and very friendly. There is actually some night life with live music. Also, after dark you can watch the lava flow from what's left of the Kalapana neighborhood. If you have a very good camera with a telephoto lense (we don't) you can see the lava creeping over the mountain. Also, don't miss the view of Kilauea erupting from the Jagger Museum at Volcano National Park AT NIGHT. You can see much more than during the day.

Daytime, go swim in one of several warm inlets from the ocean. You'll find directions in the guide books, or just ask around.

For groceries, go to the farmers markets for produce--it's way cheaper than the stores. We practically lived on papaya and apple bananas. But try the eggfruit and sapoda if you can find it. It's not grown commercially, and it's yummy!

Hale Loa is so well equipped, so lovely, such beautiful gardens, so quiet and full of aloha -- loved our ten days there and wish we could stay forever! The house is great for families with the second bedroom and second living area downstairs -- and wow, the deck is where we lived outdoors! Plus a hot tub, and all the stuff you'd ever need, squeeky clean...Mahalo nui loa, Long family, for renting your home!

Loved the property and ammenities it provided. Loved that we could use the coolers. My family didn't mind the frogs but I found after a couple of nights they were noisy. I found sleeping with cotton in my ears helped. The weather on this side of the island was so beautiful. Loved that during the day it was so warm and then it could rain and be clear the next. Would definately recommend to a friend.

Nice house, great location, hot tub outside very nice. TV, radio, wi-fi good reception. Good tradewinds and ceiling fans in every room. Two level house with separate living rooms/tv/bedrooms/bath is great for two people sharing house. Rooms aren't big so separate areas works great. Hint: keep everything eadible in refrig or else giant cockroaches appear!

    • Manager Responded on 8/8/2011

Yes! The pests love the tropics just like we do. As we remind guests in our Welcome Letter, you MUST store all food in the refrigerator to avoid bugs. All of our properties are maintained by professional pest control treatment. Mahlao, Hawaii Holiday Management
