• the building is scary looking when you drive up. But when you get inside and see out the is better because of the lagoon. If you are the type who love the rustic reality of Hilo anyways its not so bad

  It is time to replace the kitchen cabinets and the tile in the shower stall big time. And for a complete kitchen with a wisk and a blender, I was surprised there was no salt... please don't make me buy (expensive Hawaiian) salt for 4 days stay. Other than that we liked the location and being surrounded by locals and were pleased and surprised to find out the lagoon is very special becaause it is spring ewater and ocean water!!!!!

  Our first impression when entering our condo was the great view out the balcony. The ocean and tidepool shows through a thick jungle foliage than backs up to the property.
  The pool was warmer and larger than we expected. We spent hours hanging out there and getting to know the residents.
  The unit was clean and nicely furnished; there was even snorkel and beach gear in the guest closet.
  The pretty beach park next door had good swimming and snorkeling in the large tide pools and the local beachgoers were friendly.
  The location was a bit off the beaten path, about 5 minutes from town, with some industrial areas and less desirable beaches down the road, but we had no problems doing the short drive every day.
  Our master bedroom had the same great view as the living room and we slept well at night, seneraded by the sounds of the ocean and the frogs that inhabit the jungle.
  We had a great stay and love the sleepier, rainforest environs of Hilo and the nearby Puna coast. We hope to come back again.

  I was able to make a last-minute reservation -- 2:00pm for check-in that afternoon! My trip was not for fun, as my dad was at Hilo Medical Center following a catastrophic stroke. The condo was a peaceful and comfortable haven during a very difficult time. I was soothed to sleep by the sound of the waves and coqui.
  
  My only suggestion would be to replace the carpet with tile (the carpet is the reason the unit's general condition only rated 3 stars). Carpet in a tropical climate isn't necessary and almost always smells musty (though I must admit that I am not a big fan of carpet in any climate!).

  Really the location couldn't be better. Picture having breakfast of fresh fruit (papayas 6 for $1 at the Farmer's Market) on your lanai overlooking the most beautiful lagoon, palm trees, etc. And the lagoon has sea turtles! We never tied of the view. We really appreciated the WiFi - it allowed us to keep up our travel blog.

  Lovely place to stay - great swim hole, lovely condo, excellent service overall. Sharene and Su take calls and give advice at all hours and are real pros! Only flaw was the cleaning service - in 2 mths, they never showed up despite 3 phone discussions.

  I never did receive a cleaning, tho I was contacted 3 times to set it up, and even suggested a week while I would be out of town. Also, the kitchen floor had not been washed when I moved in - very sticky and grimy...
  But the rest of the apt was clean and the repairs I requested were done in a timely manner.
  I highly recommend bug traps for cockroaches, and a trash can with a lid that closes tight - to avoid feeding cockroaches in the kitchen.
  Also recommend stocking basics like olive oil, vinegar, salt & pepper, mayo, mustard, as these are basics that folks need.

• we enjoyed this lttle place. it was perfect for our needs. the ocean right there and the wonderful jungle sounds all night. when we retire, we would be interested in buying somethnglike this. when we come back we def want to stay in the same one.

    We replaced the modem when guest told us it wasn't working properly. And guest was trying to use TV when DVD was on which is why the TV was fuzzy....sorry, operator error!

  We ended up staying at a different accommodation. We received an upgrade in a lovely house next to a lagoon due to a hiccup on our arrival. The assistance we received definitely helped us leave the shaky start behind us. We had a wonderful time and we thank the management the way their handled the situation.

• Repeat Stay at Moana Loa Shores: We stayed here in a nother unit once before and really like the location, the park with turtles., the deck overlooking the pool and ocean. The pool is however very chilly due to being in the shade most of the day.

  The screen door is bent so the bugs did come in. The kitchen utinsils could use an update. Metal items ie. deck furniture quite corroded. Satisfacory unit and possibly planning a return.

  Kitchen and bathroom were clean but a bit funky (e.g., kitchen cabinets smell musty). House was just OK and the building is pretty ugly, but the view and location were amazing and we'd highly recommend the house to friends for those features. Our family loved swimming in Carlsmith beach park, checking out the turtles, etc. everyday and we liked Hilo a lot--very mellow and down to earth town with great access to a lot of natural beauty. Mahalo to the owners/caretakers of the house for providing a clean, comfortable base for exploration--and most of all to the Hawaiian people for letting us visit and enjoy their beautiful homeland.

  Nearby lagoon is wonderful for exploring and can be viewed from the balcony. Pretty quiet except for some traffic noise in the front bedroom. Very comfortable and easy to feel at home.

  Unit was small; unit has an ANT problem; the living room & lanai furnishings should be upgraded; insufficient amenities (toilet paper, hand paper towels, etc.); need another towel bar in bathroom; repair screen door and entry strip to unit. The condo is conveniently located to H. town. I did enjoy the next door public beach park and the assign parking space.

  The property was fine the condo we were in was pretty good. Furniture not comfortable. Very disappointed in not having internet after promised we would. This caused an extreme inconvenience to our business dealings through out the week.
