The property and location were great. The property was well equipped and very comfortable. The location was great, we small in the lagoon that it overlooked almost every day.
everything was just perfect ! Attention to details was superb. Quiet place, great view, good internet connectivity. Would recommend it without hesitation to anyone.
The unit was very nicely decorated and was quiet when we stayed. The building is older but again the unit is very nice. There were Turtles in the lagoon next to the property which is good for swiming.. Would have been nice to have the exact address of the key pickup location and the Mauna Loa Shores. The instructions to pick up the key are from the Hilo Airport but we flew into Kona and drove to Hilo. The instructions were not a lot of help. Our GPS would have worked fine if we had an address.

The condo itself was very nice and tastefully decorated inside. The condo was very clean and welcoming. It had a nice view from the lanai and was very quiet. The building itself was run down and we found a cockroach outside our room. We did not have a feeling of personal safety for ourselves or our vehicle outside the condo. All the locks and gates on the property made us wonder.
My 12 yr old son and I stayed here for one week for the holidays and really enjoyed it. The building is a dump but the apartment is very nice. Small kitchen but was okay for the two of us. Easy access to Hilo and eastern side of Big Island. About 45 minutes to Volcanoes NP. Quiet and no parking issues since your reserved spot is right in front. We loved eating out on the net enclosed lanai with no bugs. The sea turtles in the lagoon were amazing and swam right up to us!
Location on the ocean and a very short distance to snorkel was WONDERFUL! If you are used to quiet at night be wary. The person with bedroom on the road side found noise very irrating. Those of us who had just come from a big city and slept on the ocean side would go back in a heartbeat!!
When you first drive up to the Mauna Loa Shores Condo building, you'll think it's a dive. But once you see the interior of unit 508, your mind will be completely changed. The photos on the website are accurate. Great furnishings, tasteful decor, beautiful view from the screened lanai, plenty of supplies, convenient location, nice pool, easy access to private beaches. It's everything you could want and more. We spent more time away from the condo than in it. Here are several helpful suggestions for improvement: lanai door and front kitchen windows need locks; we could not unlock right window in master bedroom; not all light switches turned on a light or a fan--a bit confusing; make sure all light bulbs are working; not all towels/linens felt freshly laundered; bad odor from bathroom drains. Please don't misinterpret this review. These suggestions are meant to be helpful. We truly enjoyed our stay at this condo and are glad that we had the opportunity to use it.
We enjoyed our stay at the Mauna Loa Shores apt. 508. Great location, great view , cosy interior, but we didn't like the screen closing the balcony place! We like to lean out of the balcony.
The building itself was a bit shabby but the room was nice. I did miss having a dishwasher.Dave T
Building is very unappealing but location and actual unit delightful.
The condo was really great! It looked exactly like on the pictures. The kitchen was fully furnished and bath- & beach towels were provided. We really liked sitting on the balcony at night time enyoing the ocean breeze and the sound of the animals. It was a great experience! Can recommend this condo to everyone in Hilo!
Front door screen needed repair, which might be why we saw three cockroaches in the kitchen. The building was VERY secure, and the pool clean, and near the shore park. The second bedroom was not suited for adults (very small dresser drawers/shelves,and the bedframes were VERY noisy). That bedroom faced the traffic (chickens and motorcycles at 6:00.) Four adults and one bath! A plus - lots of towels, kitchen supplies, good closet space, great TV and DVD player, good living area seating, a good fan and lighting, very nice upgraded flooring, but only two chairs for the small dinette table, so, for four, we needed to eat out on the lanai. Overall,the condo is fine for a couple, but not only a 3 out of 5 for two couples, and much better than the first impression from the exterior.
