This was a fabulous rental, we loved eveything about it from the simple arrival procedures through to the amazing views, comfortable accomodation and the children adored the tidal pool. We did miss not having an outside dining area and table and some of the crockery was chipped and could be updated but these are minor niggles and definately do not detract from the place. We would definately love to return some day as this place is just so special.
We loved sunrise House! The privacy was wonderful, although a bit worried especially the first night hearing about the break-ins. It did not happen to us as we made sure all windows and doors were locked when we were away and at night. We would highly recommend this sweet and cozy place to anyone who want peace, paradise and contentment.Thank you for sharing your house with us!Monica
I am a local girl from Honolulu, but the views from this home are some of the best I have ever seen, not to mention the excellent location of peace & privacy. My 6 yr old son and I will be back same time next year.
This property is stunning. Words and pictures can not convey the serenity and beauty of snorkeling in your own private tide pool and enjoying breakfast at the sun-drenched, ocean front dining table.
renovations done really made property a much more comfortable place to stay..house was very well kept, clean...grounds were well manicured
The location of this home is so beautiful, I want to keep it a secret! We stayed for a week, and the home and the tidepool were more than large enough for my family and another couple to share. Our favorite day spent in Hawaii was at the house, playing in the tidepool and lounging in the sun. Pictures do not do it justice - it is much more beautiful and bigger than it appears. Will stay again as soon as I can!
Magical Sunrise. Sound of the waves pounding the rocks. Swimming with the fishes on the tidepool, This warm and cozy vacation house was perfect escape from daily routine. This is our second visit to the Big Island and we planning to be back !
This was the most well-equipped rental we had ever stayed in. Everything we needed for a great stay was conveniently there, from ice-chest to umbrella, from books, games, guidebooks and maps to extra beach towels, and much more. It was clean, and pleasantly furnished. We watched the fish in the tidepool during the day and enjoyed the singing of the frogs at night. Just remember not to park your car, or take a nap, under a coconut palm (Bonk!)
This is such a wonderful vacation rental! The view is stunning. A true Hawaiian experience with great service (when we arrived the lights were on, music was playing and fresh flowers were put in several rooms!). You can easily visit all the main sites of the Big Island from here. Even when it is raining it is beautiful!
Super property, we really enjoyed the view, he sound of the win and waves and the seclusion.
This was the most relaxing peaceful place that I have ever visited. The tidepool and the ocean had me mesmerized. If you want touristy and convenience to tourist attractions, this is not the place to stay. It is a wonderful quiet getaway. Pahoa offers a nice little gift shop (Puna Style), good food, three grocery stores, great massage (Isis and Stephaine), tattooing opportunity (Rudedogg, and great Sunday Market for fresh fruits, vegetables, and honey. Mahalo!
We loved the little house and the beautiful view! We'd love to stay there again. If I am to express one complaint, it would be the condition of the kitchen sink. It was in very bad shape and rusty all around it. It could stand to be replaced. Also, the satellite antenna is extremely rusty and didn't look very stable. Overall though, it was wonderful. Casey was very sweet and helpful too. A joy.
This was one of those times we all said, "I sure hope the place looks like the pictures on the web!" IT DID!!! We fell in love with the locale, and hearing the surf was heavenly. I could have stayed on the patio for hours on end. We had first-time visitors with us, and they were extremely delighted! We WILL be back, and next time for much longer. No negatives here! Mahalo. Escape from the stress of the “real world”. Relax, unwind and rejuvenate your mind, spirit and soul at this special part of the world. We have always wanted to experience “old Hawaii”, and this is probably what it was like many years ago. You’ll love the privacy, along with the sounds of the surf, and the private tide pool in the back yard. The perfect place for that romantic get away. We watched the sunrise every morning and the moon rise at night. We were lucky enough to be there with a full moon also. Loved the feeling like no one was around, yet there were neighbors right next door. It is such a tranquil place. Sunrise house had everything we needed. And the little touches, like the fresh flowers and the fruit that was there when we arrived. Mahalo to K.C. for leaving those little touches and making sure our accommodations were very clean when we arrived. It was also a great location on this side of the Big Island. Close to Champagne pond, Kapoho tide pools, Ahalanui warm pool, Issac Hale Beach Park, (where we took a great boat trip “Lava Ocean Adventures”), also Pohoiki warm pool all just a short drive away. Not to mention the great little town of Pohoa with some good places to eat there, with that warm Aloha spirit. Mahalo, for making available and sharing this little piece of paradise with us. Next time we are on the Big Island we will definitely be staying at Sunrise House, just wish we could have had it for a longer stay. Next time will be longer.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sunrise House! It was kid and adult friendly and we enjoyed every aspect of what the house had to offer. The ocean breeze was so serene and we slept with the windows open almost every hight so we could hear the beautiful cadence of the Coqui frog as well as the waves crashing into the back wall. Mahalo for the great time, we will be back next year.
Sunrise house is a magical experience. This is our 5th time renting and we will be back again. Location is perfect, the sound of the waves are so relaxing. The convenience of activity near by and the setting really help us relax and feel great every year. This is one of those great places that you only want your closest friends to know about so that you can always have your turn!
Sunrise house is a perfect location if you want to fade away for awhile. This is the antithesis to a Maui, Hawaii vacation. While both places in Hawaii are great for vacations, Sunrise House is the best for disappearing for a few days...
We love Kapoho. Even though it was a very stormy Nov. The ocean was warm and wonderful. Thank you!!!!!
I searched for days to find a private place. This place is everything we hoped for. It is also quiet. It was nice being right on the water.
This was the fifth house I've rented with A Piece of Paradise, and overall it was the best value and the most enjoyable. The oceanfront location was outstanding, the house was very comfortable and well equipped. KC and Owen the maintenance man were very friendly and helpful. It was a thoroughly enjoyable week!
Since it was so rainy while we were there, it would have been nice to have the TV working (we are not usually TV people but we were housebound much of the time). Looked like the satellite dish is rusted out. I would also recommend that a sign about not parking below the coconuts be prominently displayed upon entering the property. Luckily we thought of this and moved our car before the big storm!!
Sunrise House was an ideal place for us. The location was amazing and the simple but very adequate cottage suited our relaxed style. We had unique and special times here.
This house and its location is perfect for me. The foliage shields you from neighboring houses. The view of the ocean from the entire front of the house is spectacular. I'd wake early every morning (my body was on Eastern Time) and just sit and watch the waves come in and the black crabs scamper along the seawall. Truly peaceful. The house itself is airy (literally and figuratively) and of sufficient age to be comfortable (I like older homes). The tide pool was cold, not hot as expected, but fun for the family and nicely private. My only complaint is with kitchen ware (as usual). The kitchen needs a liquid measuring cup, preferably glass, and is in desperate need some microwavable cooking dishes. The blender was a bit tired, but so it goes with rental properties. Everything else was great. I could live there full-time, no problem. The Kapoho Beach Community was very nice to walk around. One word of warning for those who live in cities: if you don't like nighttime noises, you may not like the frogs that "sing" at night. It's louder than the peepers in vernal pools and way louder than the cicadas in August. The noise didn't bother me, but I read other reviews where people who were unaccustomed to natural sounds found it bothersome. Don't know whether the frogs are seasonal or year round.
It was a dream.House was well kept. Grounds keeper and the maintenance guy "Steve" very friendly and helpful about the sites things to do. He did not have to do that. We were enjoyed the privacy that the house provided!
Beautiful location, very private, secluded. House is older and could use a few minor repairs but who care about the house when you look outside at the ocean and the tide pool to swim in. Needs a normal size coffee pot but we were able to bring our own. We will be back. Please e-mail us with any special rates, any time of year. I come over there 3 or 4 times a year to visit my daughter who lives in HPP.
Location was exceptional, tide pool wonderful for swimming & snokeling, we found everything we needed and more (the 4 cup coffee maker was a disappointment, we had to borrow a 12-cup), beds very comfortable, a few minor repairs are needed but the beautiful surroundings more then compensated.
Great view, lovely pool and creatures.
At night the chorus of breeze, waves, crickets and tree frogs sung us to sleep. In the morning the most beautiful sunrises. Except for the sounds of nature it was quiet, no human interruption. Bliss.
Besides the ocean view and sunrise, the best aspect was No Vog! We drove to Kalapana, it was vogged in, as was Hilo. We always have beautiful skies and clean air in Kapoho, a great relief from our Kailua-Kona home. Mahalo for such a peaceful place. Sunrise was spectacular!
We visit our grandchildren in this area and luckily found Sunrise House for our first visit in 2006. Since then we have been back three times and stayed there each visit. We love it because it is very private and has a view that can be found few places on earth. It is an incredibly relaxing place to spend time and is convenient to many activities and sights. It's not the Four Seasons, mind you, but that is part of the charm. It is clean, well maintained and well equipped- not to mention as "critter-free" as a place could be in that area. It is also well-equipped so you can be pretty self-sufficient. We will be back!
Extremely happy with our stay at sunrise house, we come back year after year. So happy to see all of the improvements to the house, really great. A more comfy couch would make it perfect! We will be back again soon.
Great, great location! Had all the necessary amenities and supplies at the house. Only downside was those noisy frogs at night. The tide pool is a very nice touch.
The house itself is lovely. I was not familiar with the area and I felt a bit unsafe there after seeing nearby properties with many security signs and razor wire fences. I also think the tidal pool wall should be opened so fish can go out. To me, there seemed to be too many fish in that small pond. Property management was very responsive to questions I had.
The Sunrise House is great for a small family or two couples (or singles). Property is kept real nice and house was clean. For price, I would think that some of the smaller appliances could be replaced (coffee maker was falling apart and toaster only toasts one side), but other than that, we were very satisfied. It is the best place to be if you don't want to be in the middle of the tourist hub bub. Very secluded. You must like to listen to the sound of the ocean and jungle chirps at night.
Loved the setting -- total privacy, (which can be rare in that area); great ocean action, but with the sea wall providing a protected space; entertaining sea life easily viewed, etc. The closest anything is about 8 miles in the town of Pahoa, which had some great restaurants & lots of local color (some of it quite scruffy). We had only one day of rain, & there were lots of good things to explore. The house itself could use a bit of tweaking. A king size bed would be nice, & the kitchen cabinets/shelving isn't very functional. There's also a weird situation with the washer/dryer back to back with access through two different rooms...., but in general it's a lovely setting and a comfortable place. I'd go back again:)
The next door property (by the front door) was full of garbage and debris and conveyed a poor welcome! The bed was marginal but the couch definitely needs to be replaced.
October 2009: Owners have replaced the living room furniture with beauitiful high-quality wood furnishings, removed a door to open up the living area, and bought all new linens and lamps. The property has never looked better and our guests just love this wonderful cottage by the sea! (We are baffled by the comment about the next-door property as there are so many trees and bushes between the properties that you cannot even see next door unless you peer through the vegetation.)
