FABULOUS COTTAGE, wanted to stay forever, peaceful, no internet but the Iphone worked great, one of the nicest vacation rentals I have stayed in for the money.
First, I must remind that we stayed at Hale Pukana La, not at Champagne. You've provided a special retreat for all and especially those that love the Big Island...Keep up the good work...will be in touch...Thanks, Neil
Wonderful, open layout with views of the ocean and Champagne Pond from every room. Roomy fully-equipped kitchen and a delightful lanai overlooking the pond. Close to Isaac Hale Beach Park, where we took a Lavaboat ride out to see the newest lava flows from the sea. A truly beautiful part of Hawaii not to be missed.
Our 5 day stay at the cottage was the highlight of our trip to the Big Island. It was exactly what we were looking for - off the beaten path, beautiful and relaxing (we had some noisy next door neighbors for part of our stay, but that's the luck of the draw sometimes). The pond itself was a joy to swim and snorkel in, but if you're looking for more sea life, there is a deep, protected ocean pool right next to the pond that is easily accessible (you can swim to it from the pond during high tide) and provides excellent snorkeling. We'd choose to visit again without hesitation.
We had a great rest in Kapoho with our two young children. They loved having our own pool to swim in all day, with brief rests for sand play and chasing bugs. We swam with a turtle and saw sea snakes and all sorts of fish. Delightful. The cottage was small, but had no wasted space so never felt crowded - of course we were often outdoors anyway! The windows all opened wide and the breezes kept the cottage at the perfect temperature. just lovely.
pond into the "lagoon"; and saw beautiful fish and even a sea turtle. I suppose because of the remoteness the stars even seemed brighter here. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience this little piece of paradise. We will definitely be back!!
altho pricey -- especially including over $100 manditory cleaning fee and $35 nonrefundable damage waiver -- still this place is WORTH IT! Location is unbeatable, and home is very comfortable. For our family of 4, a dream vacation. My advice is to stay a bit longer than you thought to, and drive to other spots on the island if you're interested in seeing more. In the area, don't miss the tidepools 5 minutes south, the end of the road (where lava has closed access), Lava Tree State Park (a gem!), Pahoa town, Hilo town, and the beautiful drives and waterfalls north of Hilo. Enjoy!
The property's location is unbelievable - perhaps the best Hawaiian location ever. The only downside was a very small bedroom.
This little cottage was just perfect! Clean, inviting and quiet it would work great for a family, but was even better as a romantic getaway for just me and my husband. There is a bit of foot traffic next to the house during the day though, because it's next to the pond access for the neighborhood. We only saw about one set or family a day though. The Pahoa/Kapoho area has tons of nature places to explore and a very untouristy feel so it's perfect for getting away from the mega resorts. Pahoa town is not the kind of place to go window shopping, so you'll need to head 40 minutes to Hilo for those kinds of activities though. The pond is kind of small and only has a few fish varieties, but the perfect temp. makes up for the size and would be great for kids. Besides, the tide pools are just down the street and the snorkeling is excellent. I'll definately be back in the future!
very sweet little cottage with everything even 5 pairs of tongs in the kitchen!location great and quieta few more standing or tabletop fans would be helpful as it was quite warm in the 1-6 p.m. part of the day(86degress)charming community, turtle for a neighbor, water access right in your own backyard, water warm and crystal clear, lots of turtles in pond, weather perfect,a delightful place for a quiet get away. hope to stay again in future but Please let's keep this jewel to ourselves!
The whole family went swimming 3-5 times a day! So lovely and quiet until the last day when weekend guests filled up the adjacent houses. The Hawaiian music on the TV satalite TV surrounded us in the aloha that is only felt only in Hawai'i. Can't wait for our next visit!
As a resident of the big island, I would highly recommend Champagne Cottage. It proved to be very relaxing and it felt like I was on another island. What a perfect getaway. I loved the fact that I could walk just a few steps and be in the water on my way out to the larger swimming area.
Perfect in every way!A very special place! Can loose track of time/days just sitting on the porch listening to the birds and watching the fish.
Champagne Pond Cottage far exceeded our expectations. Once you walk thru the front door of the cottage you know you are in a magical place. They have kept the integrity of this charming cottage while upgrading the kitchen and bath. The kitchen is a delight to cook in w/a 280 view of the ponds. In the evening the tradewinds blow thru the main bedroom to keep you cool. We loved everything about the cottage and hope to stay here again!
The interior is beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice. Plenty of room for the 5 of us. Kitchen is beautiful - really appreciated the supplies that were on hand for washing dishes & laundry. Beach towels provided too! Location is too amazing for words. Privacy was much appreciated. We usually saw at least 1 turtle a day, and as many as 5 at a time. Much better than staying at Kapoho Tide Pools. So convenient to Hilo & Volocano Activities. Highly recommend this Cottage!
We had a wonderful was a very nice neighborhood. Just beautiful. Thanks again.
My husband and I can't say enough wonderful things about our experience at this property. From the gorgeous view and modernized renovation with top of the line appliances(found 1957 edged into the fireplace)this is just the first impression of this home until one steps out onto the patio. From the yard, you can climb down and swim or snorkle in the wonderfully warm pond with sea turtles and tropical fish. Even when it rains the swimming is great. We enjoyed walking around the tropical, well cared for gated community. Folks from Colorado used the walkway to the ponds next to our property and commented that we had found the most beautiful location that they had seen in their 3 months on 3 of the Hawaiian Islands. A view point south of Pahoa is now the place to see lava from Kilauea flowing into the ocean. This home is well away from the hustle and bustle of the Hilo area. We will definitely recommend this property to friends & family and hope to return soon. Jim & Vicki Clark Kuna,Idaho USA
We have stayed in many places before that were better stocked with supplies.
House is well-kept and has many amenities for such a remote location. Kids and us enjoyed the small pond which led out to larger Champagne Pond. Very relaxing and quiet at night, though the area can get busy with locals and other tourists in daytime.
Property manager did not provide passcode to lockbox.
This was a great find in a spectacular location. Very clean and modern. The private pond opening to Champagne Pond was perfect for snorkeling with fish and sea turtles. We decided on this cottage based on the other reviews and all were true. Only little suggestion would be a few more kitchen items - only 1 big knife and no bbq cleaning brush. Internet would be a nice addition. Would recommend to anyone.
We ended up leaving after 4 nights even though we had paid for 7 nights and rented a couple of rooms on the Kona side where we could swim and snorkle and hang out at the beach. Lots of people walking on path outside cottage as it is access path to the pond, so we didn't stay there during the rush hours. Take lots of groceries there is a good market in Pahoa, about a half hour drive.
